Tired of Struggling with Sleepiness Due to Night Shifts?

Be Part of a Clinical Trial to Learn More About an Investigational Oral Medication

Globally, nearly 20% of employees work in nontraditional shifts, a practice that has been linked to numerous health problems and a decrease in the overall quality of life. These shifts can contribute to issues like cognitive decline. Additionally, many shift workers suffer from Shift Work Disorder (SWD), a circadian rhythm sleep disorder characterized by excessive sleepiness, insomnia, or both, caused by irregular work schedules.

The impact of Sleep Work Disorder extends beyond individual health concerns, leading to significant costs for employers, including lower productivity, higher rates of workplace accidents, and an increase in errors. Despite these challenges, shift work remains a crucial component of the modern economy.

Presently, Pulmonologists at Revive Research Institute are actively recruiting participants for Sleep Disorder Clinical Trials in Michigan particularly focused on Shift Work Disorder.

Anyone matching the following criteria may be eligible for the Shift Work Disorder Clinical Trials:

  • Males and females between 18 to 65 years
  • Have shift work disorder (SWD) including the presence of excessive sleepiness associated with shift work schedule for at least 3 months
  • Works on night shift
*Additional criteria may apply.

We are conducting a Shift Work Disorder Clinical Trial in Michigan exploring ways to help alleviate sleepiness during night shifts and potential investigational treatment options. Revive is committed to addressing various sleep disorders and enhancing overall well-being. If you’re interested in participating, please fill out the form.

*Participants who are eligible and decide to participate, receive study-related care and treatment free of cost. Insurance is not a requirement.

Shift Work Disorder Clinical Trials

About Shift Work Disorder Clinical Trial

We are conducting Shift Work Disorder Clinical Trials at Revive Research Institute. These Sleep Disorder Clinical Trials test out the safety, efficacy, and tolerability of novel treatment for excessive daytime sleepiness options that could help people with their sleepiness symptoms.

Many of our research studies are double-blind and placebo-controlled. Such trials compare the study drug with a placebo to see how safe and effective it is. Neither you nor the study doctor will know which medication you receive i.e. the study drug or the placebo (without the active ingredient). In the case of a medical emergency, the doctor will know which drug you take.

Males and females who are 18 years or older and, have been diagnosed with Shift Work Disorder are eligible to enroll in Sleep Disorder Clinical Trials in Michigan. Throughout the trial, the study team will record data on adverse events, clinical laboratory results, ECG findings, and vital signs to evaluate the drug’s tolerability.

*All study procedures and study-related treatment including the investigational drug is free of cost to you and insurance is not required to participate.
*The study doctor will take you through every step of the clinical trial before you decide to participate and will answer any questions you have about the study treatment.

Get Started: What to Expect?

If you are suffering from a sleep disorder and want to participate in our Sleep Disorder Clinical Trials in Michigan, please fill out the form above. One of our study team representatives will call you to see if you are a fit for this study (pre-screening).

Someone from the research team will ask you to sign an Informed Consent Form (ICF) if you meet the study criteria during the pre-screening process. Once you sign the ICF, we will invite you for a screening visit to our clinical site; this will be an initial visit. After that, you will undergo a series of health-related questions and tests to confirm your eligibility as a participant.

Once you receive confirmation of eligibility, you will formally be a part of the Shift Work Disorder Clinical Trials. You will receive all the information about the research study you might need to enroll in during the ICF process. We encourage you to ask as many questions as you would like before deciding to participate.

*There is no cost to participating and a team of highly qualified and experienced staff will provide you with study-related care for the duration of this study.

About Shift Work Disorder (SWD)

About Shift Work Disorder

Shift Work Disorder (SWD) is a condition affecting individuals who work non-traditional hours, such as night shifts, early morning shifts, or rotating shifts. These irregular work schedules disrupt the body’s internal clock, or circadian rhythm, leading to sleep difficulties, excessive sleepiness, and other health issues.

Circadian rhythms are the physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow a 24-hour cycle, primarily influenced by light and darkness. Shift work disrupts these natural processes by conflicting with the body’s internal clock, or circadian rhythm. Around 10-43% shift workers are diagnosed with sleep work disorder That involves excessive sleepiness and contributes to compromised health, performance and safety at work.

Symptoms of Shift Work Disorder

Manifestations include:

  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Persistent fatigue
  • Impaired concentration and memory
  • Increased irritability, anxiety, or depression
  • Gastrointestinal issues (indigestion, constipation, diarrhea)
  • Frequent headaches or migraines
  • Disrupted sleep-wake cycle
  • Reduced work and daily activity performance

Complications of Shift Work Disorder

If left untreated, shift work sleep disorder can lead to various complications. One may experience poor work performance due to difficulties with concentration and memory, affecting overall productivity. The disorder also increases the risk of accidents, both in the workplace and while commuting, due to diminished alertness and slower reaction times. Mood disturbances, such as irritability and heightened risk of depression, are common among those with this condition. Additionally, one might turn to alcohol or substances to self-medicate their sleep issues, potentially leading to substance abuse disorders.

Causes of Shift Work Disorder

The underlying causes of Shift Work Disorder (SWD) primarily involve the disruption of the body’s natural circadian rhythm due to irregular work hours, such as night or rotating shifts. This disruption is compounded by inadequate exposure to natural light, insufficient sleep duration, and environmental factors like noise and light during daytime sleep. Additionally, reliance on stimulants such as caffeine and individual differences in sleep preferences contribute to the disorder, leading to symptoms such as excessive sleepiness, insomnia, and impaired functioning.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Shift Work Disorder?

Shift Work Disorder (SWD) is a sleep disorder that affects people who work non-traditional hours, such as night shifts, early morning shifts, or rotating shifts. The disorder is characterized by excessive sleepiness during wakeful hours and difficulty sleeping during intended rest times. This occurs because shift work disrupts the body’s natural circadian rhythm, which regulates the sleep-wake cycle.

How is Shift Work Disorder Diagnosed?

Diagnosing shift work disorder (SWD) typically involves an evaluation by a healthcare provider. The process begins with a detailed review of the patient’s medical history and symptoms, focusing on issues such as insomnia, excessive sleepiness, and difficulties with concentration and mood caused by irregular work hours.

Do I have to pay to participate in Shift Work Disorder Clinical Trials?

Participation in our Sleep Disorder Clinical Trials in Michigan is free of cost to you, and insurance is not required to participate. If you qualify and decide to participate, you may be financially compensated for your time and travel. Details of the stipend will be given to you once you complete the screening process and move on to the Informed Consent Process.
